Sunrise on the eastern coast is a special event. I stood at Dolphin’s Nose, a spur jutting out into the Bay of Bengal, to behold the breaking of the sun’s upper limb over the horizon of the sea. As the eastern sky started unfolding like the crimson petals of a gigantic flower, I was overcome by a wave of romantic feelings and nostalgia—vivid memorie not diminished by the fact that almost ten years had passed 

I was a young bachelor then, and Visakhapatnam did not have much to offer. Every Sunday morning, I used to rise before dawn and head for Dolphin’s Nose, to enjoy the dazzling spectacle of the sun majestically rising out of the sea. The fresh, salty sea breeze was a panacea for all the effects of hangovers caused by Saturday night excesses 

After viewing the metamorphosis at sunrise, I would walk downhill along the steep mountain-path, towards the rocky beach, for a brief swim. Each time, I noticed a flurry of activity in a distant compound with a single decrepit building. I used to ignore it, but curiously, one day I decided to take a closer look. It was a fish market. Most customers were housewives from the nearby residential complexes. They were at their “Sunday-worst”—sans make-up, slovenly dressed, faces unwashed, and unkempt hair—in stark contrast with their carefully made-up appearances at the club the previous evening 

I had began to walk away, quite dejected, when I saw her for the first time. I stopped, dead in my tracks. She was a real beauty—tall, fair and freshly bathed, her long lustrous hair dancing on her shoulders. She had large, expressive brown eye and her sharp features were accentuated by the rays of the morning Sun. I can’t begin to describe the sensation she evoked in me; it was the first time in my life that I felt my heart ache with such intense yearning. I knew this was love. Yet, in my heart, I knew that Istood no chance—she had a mangalsutra around her neck. She was married—maybe happily, too. Nevertheles I drew closer to her and made the pretence of buying some fish. Smiling guardedly at me, she selected a couple of pomfrets and held them out to me. I managed to briefly touch her soft hands—the feeling was electric and a shiver of thrill passed through me. She communicated an unspoken “good-bye” with her teasing, dancing eyes and briskly walked away. Too dazed to follow her, I returned to my room and had fried pomfret for breakfast. Needless to say, they tasted delicious 

Soon, I was following this routine every Sunday morning with almost religious zeal. She never missed her rendezvous with me—same place, same day, at precisely the same time, Seven o’clock. Still, not a word was exchanged between us. I was too shy and she probably wanted to keep it this way—a beautiful ethereal relationship—a love so delicate that one wrong move might ruin everything. Meanwhile, I had developed a taste for fried pomfret—quite surprisingly, considering that I had never eaten fish before

The high-powered lawyer and corporate director yesterday addressed the grads of New York City's Ethical Culture Fieldston School. My boss, Fortune Managing Editor Andy Serwer, was among the proud parents there. So was Goldman Sachs (GS) CEO Lloyd Blankfein, who got a one-day reprieve from testifying in the trial of former Goldman director Rajat Gupta so he could see his daughter graduate.

Jordan's talk, I heard, was inspiring to the grownups as well as the kids. So I called the man and asked if I could share what he said. Jordan, who grew up in segregated Atlanta during the 1950s, took advantage of every opportunity and built a career advising CEOs of such companies as American Express (AXP), Xerox (XRX), and Lazard (LAZ), where he is now, at 76, a director and also a senior managing director of Lazard Freres. Jordan told me this morning that he doesn't pass up opportunities to share what he's learned. So here's an excerpt of what the big man told the Fieldston grads:

You, the class of 2012, have been given a gift of immeasurable value, but that gift comes with enormous responsibilities, and that's what I want to talk to you about this morning.

You see, there is very little resemblance between your high school experience and mine. You have been privileged to attend one of the nation's oldest and finest schools, in one of the world's greatest cities. Now I'm not going to tell you that I had to walk barefoot five miles to school … uphill … both coming and going. But I do want to tell you a bit about my high school experience.

I graduated in 1953 from the David T. Howard high school in Atlanta, Georgia. At that time, there were only three high schools in Atlanta for black people, and one was a vocational school. Atlanta did not have any public black high school until 1926.

When I say the words "black high school, " I'm speaking, of course, of segregation. At that time, black people could not attend school alongside white people in Atlanta--or anywhere in the old South.

1. Amazon’s Mechanical Turk.

Mechanical Turk is a great way to make some extra cash. You probably won’t make much more than a few dollars an hour, but it’s also dead simple to complete many of the tasks. Most tasks take less than a minute to complete and pay a few pennies. If you do a lot of MTurk, it could add up to at least some fun spending money. Sign up for free, then complete qualifications to earn access to higher-paying tasks.

2. Sell stock photos.

iStockPhoto is just one site that allows you to sell stock photos; there are others. Before you decide to go crazy and upload your whole album, take note of what’s selling well and try your hand at doing something similar. iStockPhoto also works for those who know how to render images; some of their most popular images were created on a computer! Have three killer stock photos ready for iStockPhoto’s inspection; they will want them when you sign up.

3. Sell stuff on eBay.

Start by selling your own extra stuff. Then, once you get a feel for selling your extra stuff, go door-to-door in nicer neighborhoods in your town. Develop an eye for what will sell and what won’t (old laptops, for instance, could be a gold mine–if you know how to format them to get rid of the previous owner’s personal data.) Sign a contract where you take 25-30% (or more) of the gross sale. Your customers will be happy to get cash for their old junk, and you’ll make some good money selling other people’s stuff. eBay

4. Become a freelance article writer.

It may not pay well, but there is a growing demand for this. Write 200-300 word articles and submit them to article directories. Potential clients include bloggers, marketers, and small businesses. You can write articles in a niche in batches and sell them as a package to one or more clients, or you can offer your services for hire per word or article and let your client give you direction. A foundation of keyword research is important to succeed at this job (unless you’re just taking direction from a client), but keyword research is learnable.

5. Write articles for magazines or other publications.

If you have a background in journalism, or just a passion for it, you can try your hand at submitting articles to publications. Don’t just randomly fire off articles, however; have a plan and, preferably, a contact at the publication you wish to submit to. The good news is that there are publications in pretty much any niche you can think of. To see some publications that are hiring, visit Online Writing Jobs, PoeWar Freelance Jobs, and Writing.com.

6. Transcribe audio files.

An easy job; doesn’t pay well, but also a quick way to make some money. Sign up on eLance oroDesk to start, and/or advertise your services in entrepreneur forums. Requires good hearing and a good command of the English language. You may also want to invest in a foot pedal if you plan to transcribe often. Make sure you know how to transcribe interviews before you start your first job.

7. Become a virtual assistant (VA).

There are entire books written on how to become a virtual assistant, so this job is definitely worthy of more research. My advice: Focus on one niche (I just hired Lisa Morosky of VA for Bloggers, for instance.) Also, reach out to potential customers directly and let them know what you can do for them instead of hitting up freelance web sites. Finally, you may want to consider resources such asAssistU, which provides training for up-and-coming virtual assistants.

Women are more jealous of a work rival if they are attractive and work well with men

Women in the workplace are plagued by jealousy and envy when it comes to their more attractive colleagues, while men remain unfazed by such same-sex rivalry, a study has revealed.

But both men and women are equally envious of a rival's social skills.

Using questionnaires given to 200 workers, scientists analysed intrasexual rivalry, choosing 114 people to further complete the study.

Results showed sexual competition generally causes more jealousy and envy in women, but rivals' social skills provoke both emotions in both men and women.

Rivals: Women feel envy and jealousy towards work rivals if they are attractive, and even more so if they have good social skills

Professor Rosario Zurriaga, of the University of Valencia, said: 'This result shows the importance of social skills in work environments.

'Women with a high level of intrasexual competition are more jealous if the rival is more attractive and more envious if the rival is more powerful and dominating.

'They did not get any results in men, as no rival characteristics that provoke jealousy or envy predicted intrasexual competition.

'Our research intends to clarify the role of emotions like envy and jealousy at work. These feelings have not been studied in working contexts and can cause stress in workers and negatively affect the quality of working life.'

Researchers looked at intrasexual rivalry - competition with other people of the same sex caused by a desire to keep access to the opposite sex.

They distinguished between two emotions, envy and jealousy.

They defined jealousy as a threat or loss of success because of interference from a rival. Envy, according to the Spanish, Dutch and Argentinian researchers, is a response to another person who has skills or qualities they desire.

Out of the participants, 26 per cent worked in administration, 21 per cent in the services sector, 30 per cent in education and the rest in health and other professions.

The average age was 36 years, with an equal amount of men and women, all of whom had spent 11 years in their current company.

Prof Zurriaga, aided in the study by the University of Groninge, Netherlands, and University of Palermo, Argentina, believes in order to prevent the negative effects of these feelings, people should modify aspects like the perception of threat, loss or comparison with others at work.

Writing for the journal Revista de Psicologma Social, they said: 'This is one of the first studies that examines rivals' characteristics in this environment and contributes to a better understanding of conflicts and problems that can occur in working relationships.

You don't need to be an investment

You don't need to be an investment banker or consultant to land a spot at a top MBA program. In fact, breaking free from your corporate bonds can help differentiate you in a very positive way from your competitor in the next cubicle.

Of course, the halls of the top B-schools -- Harvard, Stanford and Wharton to name a few -- are still teeming with alums of Goldman (GS), McKinsey, and Blackstone (BX). But today, unlike in the mid-2000s, spaces in each entering business school class are reserved for entrepreneurial types. MBA admissions deans are often looking for people who have launched successful, or even unsuccessful, businesses to fill spots in entrepreneurial labs and other programs.

This shift has been important for international as well as American applicants. In the past, international applicants needed the brand of a well-known firm to have any real chance of admission to a leading school, but entrepreneurs from around the world are now regularly accepted to top schools.

My firm recently worked with a student who had left behind the comforts of consulting to go it alone in the global technology space. While few had ever heard of her service, which is related to clean energy, she earned a spot in arguably the nation's top business school. Another successful entrepreneur left the trappings of corporate life behind to start a food services firm, the modest success of which has propelled him into a top-five MBA program.

There are a few factors contributing to this trend. It is partly a result of the fascination with startups. Business schools have come to respect and admire the incredible value generated by today's generation of young, often tech-focused entrepreneurs. Also, business schools are noticing the migration of some top-tier candidates from more traditional firms like McKinsey and Goldman Sachs to more entrepreneurial firms like Facebook (FB). Lastly, schools are starting to believe that the way out of the current economic downturn is growth fueled by entrepreneurship, and they want to play a role in this transformation.

As they recruit more entrepreneurs, business schools are investing heavily in new classes and entrepreneurship programs. University of California Davis recently announced a new $5 million investment in an interdisciplinary institute devoted to innovation and entrepreneurship, which builds on the school's successful Center for Entrepreneurship. And Columbia Business School is developing a third-year entrepreneur-in-residence program for its students.

Similarly, Harvard Business School is making a significant bet that the next generation of business school students will need to be more entrepreneurially minded by launching an innovation lab that offers a hub where students, entrepreneurs, and local businesses can share ideas and collaborate. Harvard has also added a first-year course called Field Immersion Experiences for Leadership Development (FIELD), which, among other activities, splits students into groups and gives them seed funding ($3, 000 to $5, 000) to build a real company.

Forgiveness - The Key to Wholesomeness

"Forgive all who have offended you, not for them, but for yourself." by Harriet Nelson. Forgiveness is a gift that has been afforded to each human being. It is the responsibility of each person to seek counsel, advice, coaching and or healing in order to experience the rewards of forgiving.

Many people have a difficult time forgiving because in their heart they feel they have reason to hold something against another person. They justify why they do not forgive, they go n to explain what was one to them. Let's look at an example which is prevalent in our society. Many couples and marriages end up separated and divorced due to the act of infidelity. When this behavior occurs in a relationship and they go their separate ways, there will be some form of resentment, anger and un-forgiveness. I have personally learned to forgive family memberss that have caused injury to my emotions and my physical body. Now I am not saying it's easy, but I am saying that it is possible. I wil not go into detail in exactly what took place, but I will say that as long as I did not forgive those persons, I was miserable, unhappy and my whole focus was the emotional injuries that took place. I was stuck with feelings of un-forgiveness.

Forgiveness is the key to becoming whole again after a crisis has taken place in someone's life. The path of happiness and peace will not be experienced until the individuals seek help. Forgiveness is our portion. We are entitled to activate that precious gift that we have been given. It has to become an act of faith to release the person or persons who have caused you harm. All the solutions to life's problems are within us. Forgiveness can be ne of the most difficult revelations to understand, but as you read, I hope forgiveness becomes a reality to you. Forgiveness heals people, cities, nations and the world. All are capable of putting down their own agendas and learn to forgive. Forgiveness brings freedom to our heart and mind.

Today as you read this article, make a conscious choice to start forgiving those that inflicted pain upon you. A wonderful and successful way to begin is to get a journal and start writing your thoughts. Take some deep breaths and look within for the answers you are looking for. It will not be long before some thoughts of people and situations that have taken place will come up. Write down the names and by an act of faith say "Today I forgive you(name the person) for all the hurt and damage you caused me. I release you and the power you had over me. No longer will hurt or resentment control my life."

Remember forgiveness is a gift you deserve.

5. What You Sow, You Reap. This is also called The Law of the Farm or The Law of Reciprocity. In order to continue to receive, we must give. 


6. You Can't Un-ring a Bell. No one can change what's already happened. Whatever is done is done. It's up to us whether we use the experience to learn or allow ourselves to be run by the experience. 


7. It Takes a Long Time to Build a Good Reputation and Only a Short While to Ruin It. Trust and credibility is built slowly but can be lost almost instantly. 


8. If You Don't Believe in Yourself, No One Else Will. People don't respect or follow anyone who doesn't have confidence in themselves. I think the Universe tends to trust us to the degree we trust ourselves. 

9. It Doesn't Take Guts to Quit. Anyone can quit. And most people do—on their dreams and on themselves．
